Standard reports

Cloud Cruiser includes several standard reports such as invoices, top usage, trends, and variances.

You can search for a report by name in the navigation pane of the Cloud Cruiser Portal.

Running standard reports

This section explains how to run any standard report. For descriptions of specific reports, see one of the following sections:

To run a standard report

  1. Log into the Cloud Cruiser Portal as a user with the Report User role.

  2. Go to Reporting > Standard Reports .
  3. Select the desired report.
    The report list is sorted into groups. If you don’t see the report you want, it might be hidden. Right-click anywhere in the list and choose Show hidden groups and reports.

  4. To specify the level at which report data will be shown, use the Account Level menu.
  5. To define an account range for reports, use the Account Filter menu by clicking Select

    The Account Level Selection field setting on the Administration > Configuration > Reporting tab determines which account level is used for the Account Filter field for filtering report results. You can ignore the Account Level Selection setting by typing any account name in the Account Filter field.

  6. To define the date range for a report, use the Date Range menu to select a range. The range you select will show the start and end dates in the fields below. You can click the calendar icons to adjust the dates, which will show a Custom date range.
    The Previous Period is the accounting period (usually a calendar month) that just closed. The Current Period is the period in progress, not yet closed.
  7. If this is a period report, select an accounting period with the Accounting Year and Accounting Period menus.
    If you’ve enabled the Flexible Accounting Day option, you can also specify an Accounting Day here. For information about this option, see Configuring record data.
  8. To view the report results, click Run Report. To export them, click Export and choose a file format.

Viewing the results of standard reports

The report results are contained within a tab. Each run of a report adds a tab to the Standard Reports page so that you can click between them to compare and contrast data.

If you get the message No pages returned from report server, this means that no charge records in the database matched the parameters you specified. To review your settings and/or re-run the report with different values, click Parameters.

Most reports generate one page per customer at the account level selected at runtime. The following shows a condensed example of a single page for one of five business units in a report.

To page through the report to view the other business units, use the page navigation above the report. You can click any underlined number or heading to drill down into it for more detail. For example, clicking 6,452 (the number of SLA Gold Packages) in the previously shown report results produces this Resource Detail Invoice report breaking down those packages by Accounting Date and Virtual Machine.

After running a standard report, you can export the report results by clicking Export at the top of the report page and choosing one of several standard file formats.

Some reports allow you to expand each account to break down its units to the next level of the account structure. For example, the following Top Revenue by Account report was run at the Reseller level and the revenue for the reseller AppDynamics is broken down to the Customer level. To the right of each account’s total charges, you can click the icon to run a Standard Invoice Report for the account.

Grouping standard reports

You can add report groups, modify existing report group names and the report names, and move reports between folders.

To add a new report group

  1. Go to Reporting > Standard Reports.
  2. In the list of reports, right-click and select Add new report group.
  3. In the Add new group dialog box, enter a group name and then click OK.
    The new group is added to the bottom of the list.
  4. Drag the group to the location you want in the list.

You can use drag and drop to move the groups and reports in the Reports list.

You can rename or delete the report group by right-clicking on the folder and selecting Rename group or Delete group.

Setting report visibility

You can hide reports and report groups from all users or make them only available for administrators to view.

To set report visibility

  1. Go to Reporting > Standard Reports.
  2. Right-click an individual report or a report grouip and choose Select Visibility.
  3. In the Set Visibility dialog box, select All Users, Administrators, or Hidden.
    If you hide a report group, all reports in that group are also hidden.
  4. Click OK.

To view hidden reports and report groups, right-click anywhere in the list and choose Show hidden groups and reports. Groups and reports marked as hidden are shown in italics.

Available reports

This section describes the standard reports available in Cloud Cruiser.

Invoice reports

The following invoice reports are available in Cloud Cruiser:

Report Description
Standard Invoice

The Standard Invoice report provides charges by account and service group, broken down by tiers for services that use a tiered rate plan.

After running the report, click any of the Units links to open the Service Measure Detail Invoice page where you can specify the identifiers by which to slice the data in the detailed invoice output.

Service Invoice Summary The Service Invoice Summary report provides a report on charges to the various levels of your account structure.

Top revenue and cost reports

The following reports on top revenue and cost are available in Cloud Cruiser. They have two extra parameters:

  • In the Top N field, specify the number of accounts to show.
    For example, if you specify 3, the three accounts with the highest revenue will be displayed. The default is 10.
  • (optional) Set the Expand to Resource field to Yes to break the results down by resource when the top-level items are expanded. By default, the report breaks down the report results by the next highest account level.
Report Description
Top Charges by Account

The Top Charges by Account report provides a report of the accounts with the highest charges.

This report allows you to open a Standard Invoice report for any listed account and to expand any listed account to show its child accounts.

Top Cost by Account

The Top Cost by Account report provides a report of the accounts with the highest cost of goods sold (COGS).

This report allows you to open a Standard Invoice report for any listed account and to expand any listed account to show its child accounts.

Other reports

The following reports are available in the Other group:

Report Description
User List The User List report provides a list of all users, with their ID, user name, domain name, email address, user role, and user group.
Transactions

The Transactions report provides a report for active transactions in the range you specify. You can select Include inactive transactions and Include processed transactions to expand your transaction report.

 

Dimensions by Measures The Dimensions by Measures report shows measure units for multiple measures and dimensions. Specify the measures and dimensions to include in the report output.
