Managing stored procedures

Cloud Cruiser uses stored procedures that perform various actions in its database without requiring direct access to SQL Management Studio. To work with stored procedures, go to Data > Setup > DB Object Maintenance. You can download stored procedures to your local drive and upload them to the database server after editing them.

These procedures are intended for editing by HPE personnel. HPE recommends that you make a backup copy of a stored procedure before modifying it.

Each procedure is stored in Cloud Cruiser as an XML file that serves as a wrapper for delivering SQL commands to the database. The format is as follows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<procedure name="name" description="description">
<sqlserver>
SQL goes here
</sqlserver>
</procedure>

For example, as part of creating a custom report you must create a stored procedure to retrieve data from the Cloud Cruiser database, and then call that stored procedure from the report .jrxml file. For more information about creating a custom report, see Creating custom reports. For an example of how a stored procedure is used in reports, see the attached document, which describes the sp_summary stored procedure used by the Standard Invoice report.

For example, you could write a stored procedure to return a dataset from the Cloud Cruiser database, in the event that you need to perform more complex processing of that data than is easily achievable in a standard Cloud Cruiser workflow.
